I don't know enough about the current nominee Obama has made for attorney general, but why even get in the tussle? Why not do a fancy Jujitsu move and use a perceived Republican strength to further truth, justice and what at least once was the American way.
It seems to me that nominating Fitzgerald could only do good. Yes Obama would be letting loose a zealous force, but I think it would be a force for good even if it could not be controlled. Talk about credit for being bipartisan. How could the Republicans even object? One more nail in the coffin.
We need a cleanup in the country. Even the right wingers I know agree on that. I personally would trust Fitzgerald to enforce the rule of law, blindly and without favor. And though we as Democrats may suffer the loss of some rotten fruit I suspect the Republicans would see whole orchards fall. Ok, a crappy metaphor but I would like to have some faith restored in my government's ability to enforce justice.
